Hospital Ventilation Regulations

In the United Kingdom the Department of Health provides specific guidance for Healthcare premises called HTM 03-01.

HTM 03-01 Part A covers the Design and Validation of ventilation systems for Healthcare premises.

HTM 03-01 Part B covers the Operational Management and Performance of ventilation systems for Healthcare premises.

The regulations specifically state that:

1. As a minimum ventilation systems require a visual inspection on an annual basis.

2. Ventilation systems in critical areas such as operating departments and primary care should be inspected and performance measurements taken quarterly.

3. Ventilation systems installed to control or contain hazardous substances are required to be examined and tested by a competent person every 14 months.

4. The site must agree in advance with the local Fire Department on a schedule of inspection and testing of any fire detection and containment systems. The testing must demonstrate the continued efficiency of any system with records being kept.
